The redistribution of audio by the Camera department for Video Assist purposes is a violation of Local 695 contracts. Therefore, sending audio to Camera for redistribution, including but not limited to video village, production offices or remote locations whether by wire or wireless or IT network, would violate 695’s contract. Other than courtesy headphones or for an ENG/EPK camera, we see no reason to provide an audio feed to the Camera department.
Reflecting Local 695’s long-established history, the position of Video Assist is to serve the various departments by delivering video, with or without sound, and with or without playback, to “assist” in the performance of their jobs. 695 Video Assist Technicians are responsible for all video transmission outside the Camera department.
Production Sound crews are advised that any production company asking you to provide such an audio feed may expose the company to a Grievance. Mixers who are asked to do so may explain the violation to those requesting it or report the violation to the Local.
It’s vitally important that we protect the work of our Local 695 Video Engineers and Video Assist Sisters & Brothers and we ask all members to adhere to these guidelines at all times.
